Raku fired owl.
Wheel thrown pottery owls made by me and fired using a technique inspired by traditional Japanese potters. The owls were removed from the kiln while still glowing red hot and placed in a metal bin filled with sawdust and paper which bursts into flame. The lid is then secured to produce a smoky, oxygen free atmosphere in which the magic happens, producing amazing and unpredictable metallic colours.
The last photo shows me placing them into the bins with the flames.
