What constitutes a cremation urn?
A cremation urn by definition, is a container to hold the cremated remains of a person or pet (known as ashes or cremains) after the cremation process. Urns come in various materials including brass, ceramic and wood, however you could use a leopard spotted gumboot tied with a zip tie if that is what holds meaning for you and your family. I do suggest you consult with your Funeral Director if you will be asking them to fill your more unusual containers. Warning - if you have not chosen an urn you will be presented with ashes in a "standard" container which could be an ugly grey plastic box. This can be quite confronting if you are not prepared. What type of urn should I choose?
The answer depends on what you intend to do with the ashes. There are 5 main options.
Can I add things to the Urn?
Yes. Anything that will fit in the urn with the ashes is fine. For example a pair of booties with the baby or a wedding ring with Dad. You could add the ashes of a pet to the ashes of their owner if you choose. Do you work directly with Funeral Directors and Crematoriums?
I certainly do work with all the local places from Mossman to Townsville. Regardless of where you are in the world I can have your urn sent directly to your Funeral Director or Crematorium staff and I am always available to answer any questions you or they may have. Do I need to use your website to place an order for any urn?
Not at all. I can invoice you separately if that suits you better. Or I can invoice the Funeral Director and they will cover the cost of the urn and the price will be included in their bill. This way you only have to pay one sum. Simply get in touch with me via messenger, email or phone to organise. |

What is the difference between a personalised and a custom cremation urn?
A personalised cremation urn is one that you can make uniquely yours by adding personal touches like names, dates, or special symbols to an already made urn. It's like adding your own flair to a ready-made piece. A custom cremation urn is entirely crafted from scratch according to your specific design and size requirements. It's like having a one-of-a-kind piece of art made just for your loved one. What are my options for personalisation? There are several options on offer to personalise a ceramic piece, there are some examples on the Portfolio page. I can add personalisations to plinths and bases as well as urns.
How long does it take to add personalisation to an urn or plinth? Each technique has it's own time frame.
Can you put a photograph on an urn? Yes. Full disclosure. I am learning this process right now. I have successfully added a photo to an urn once. I have a new urn shape just for this purpose called a "Picture Urn". I am completing my first order right now and will include a picture of the completed urn here as soon as it is done. So far I have learned that it take 2 to 3 weeks to have the photograph printed on the required special paper needed to fire onto the urn. This includes any design and consultations necessary with you to get your photo exactly right before we send it to the printers. |

Can you make in urn the shape of..........boots, a guitar, a dragon...insert your idea?
Short answer; probably not as I am not a specialized sculptor. What I most certainly can do is listen to your idea, then have a think about what is possible. This usually takes me 24 hours or so as it rattles around in my head and all sorts of ideas pop up. You will see on the Portfolio page the urns I have already come up with for people. Note - I work with clay exclusively, I cannot make wooden or glass items for you.

How long does it take to make a custom urn?
Depending on the complexity of the urn and how many new skills I need to learn, a custom urn takes a minimum of 8 weeks to make. I sometimes make 3 different urns for you to choose from. I sometimes have to order in new colours and new clays that I am not familiar with to make your urn. This means I have to learn all the idiosyncrasies of the new product including test firings until I get things working how we want them. Pottery will not be rushed and other factors like the heat, humidity and rainfall all affect production times.
How much design input do I have in the creation of the perfect urn for my Beloved?
We will work very closely together. I will keep you updated with every step of the process and I will send mock up pictures whenever we change or add to a design. Even when a piece is sitting on the shelf drying out I will at minimum email you every week. You have as much or as little input as is comfortable for you.

What I can do :-
- Make shapes based on spheres like lawn bowls and dragon eggs, honey pots (all over 3 litres in capacity to suit whole adult ashes or the largest of pets excluding horses).
- I have vintage moulds in amazing shapes like unicorns, teapots, pillars and can source a myriad of other shapes. (Just ask)
- Adapt an urn shape you can already see on the website to suit your needs, like painting a rainbow on a Prestige or a blue elephant on a Treasure Urn, camouflage colours, other colours as required.
- Add silhouettes in black on raku pots like the Dragon Face you can see on the Portfolio page.
- Use stamps to imprint your desired image.
- Add an under-glaze or over-glaze decal with great detail and beautiful colours to the urn as with this Rose Elegant Urn.
What I cannot do -
- Make an exact copy of an urn you found elsewhere like Etsy. Apart from not me liking the idea of copying another artist they may have used other materials like fibreglass or glass. And I guarantee that if you already love that urn, you are NOT going to love the one I make.

How is a ceramic Urn filled with ash?
In all urns excluding underwater urns and biodegradable urns, I strongly recommend housing ashes inside a plastic bag within the urn. To do this place the bag inside the urn first, then use a funnel which can be rolled up cardboard and a bit of tape to place inside the bag. Gently pour the cremains into the bag, seal the bag and you're done.
Be warned, this can be a confronting job if you are going to do this yourself. Although every one of my clients who have done this have been fine. Maybe it was just me when I did this for the very first time with my Aunty Ena's ashes.
Most Funeral Directors and Crematoriums will happily inter the ashes for you, just ask. If you have any issues with them at all please let me know, I am happy to intercede on your behalf.
How is a ceramic urn sealed?
Some Funeral Directors use a strong glue to seal ceramic vessels. I like to use a lovely clear silicone adhesive that is water proof and used to seal fishtanks. You can buy your own plastic bags and silicone or purchase a Sealing Kit from me to save the hassle.
What can I do when the ashes do not fit in the urn?
There are lots of options if all the ashes will not go into your urn.
I make every effort to guide you to the right sized urn but cannot take responsibility for the urn being too small by giving a refund or swapping an urn that has already had ashes inside.
How do I take care for my White Lily Urn product?
Glossy and satin finishes can be dusted or wiped over with a damp cloth.
Matt finishes that are rough in texture will catch fibres from a damp cloth so choose the cloth carefully. I like cleaning goo like silly putty that will pick up any dust from the surface with causing you distress.
These are ceramic items so I recommend they be housed in a low traffic area where they won't be bumped or knocked over.

What can I do when the ashes do not fit in the urn?
There are lots of options if all the ashes will not go into your urn.
- Scatter the remainder of ashes in a meaningful place for you.
- Purchase a further smaller urn to hold the remaining ashes.
- Purchase a larger urn and transfer the ashes to the larger vessel.
- Purchase a Pedestal or Plinth to hold the extra ash. I show you how to use the plinth for ashes in this short video. This options allows people to choose smaller urns that they love like the Unicorn Urn, Angels, Cherubs or Doves and use it for adult ashes.
